The operation

An elderly patient has been suffering from heart disease for many years. In the meantime, his general condition is poor. The doctors suggest an operation. The routine procedure does not take long and afterwards the patient will have a much better quality of life.

At the chief consultant's visit, the doctors suggest that the patient have the operation within 48 hours.

The patient vehemently rejects the proposal: He would never agree to this operation. He would rather go home without treatment.
