In the 17th century, the so-called “Inselmeister” would run the hospital with a total of 17 employees. He was paid an annual wage of 12 pounds for this. In addition, he was remunerated in kind with 4 Mütt (1 Mütt corresponds to about 14 litres) of rye, 20 Mütt of spelt, and 15 Mütt of grain, which corresponded to a value of about 230 pounds. The house servant at the Inselspital, on the other hand, received only 24 crowns (Kroner) for his work.
